Fevre,
Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ! Those pitted exhaust manifolds may be my next project. Most I have seen as aftermarket are Chinese. I don't need the numbers but I sure do want the gasket-less, non-warped fit. Is there a source of American-made manifolds at a reasonable price?
I've seen some exhaust manifold treatments that you might try before pitching those - POR comes to mind...they've got a special high temp silver/aluminum looking coating that should cover those...
I went throuh hell by experimenting with plugs. I learened a $300 lesson. Stick with the same plugs that the engine left the factory with or you may learn a $300 lesson and a few weeks of hell as I did.
That's not true. Many can figure out to look at the plugs right away when an engine is missing. Look at the tiny tip on those platinum plugs you were using.
I tend to experiment and the pic shows one of the best manifold coatings I have found. Graphite is simply carbon and it does not burn off. In fact it seems to penetrate the steel and heat bonds it to the metal. The "look" is a little darker than some might prefer. But it does not peel. It's "real" application for many years has been with speedo cables and door locks.

I see GM sells brand new Rams horns for about $320 a pair, not sure of the casing quality or where it is done. If yours are not too bad you might be able to get them sand blasted and maybe smooth them out with JB weld with a light sanding after.
I painted mine but they flaked after a few weeks, that grahpite stuff looks interesting.
