Default 69 battery and body

i have an question that might lead to a lawsuit if the answer is not right. I have a 69 conv with a bad battery and it has a multiple spark distributer (MSD). I took the old battery out without looking at the wires, as i was putting the new battery in i noticed that the car cables and the MSD cables did not match. In other words the red (+) for the car and the black (-) cable for the MSD were together and vice versa. I have two problems, when i looked at my service manual to determine which wires were + and -, it said that 68 and 69 models had the battery located in the engine compartment and later models were located behind the seat, my box is behind the seat. Can a 69 have the battery located behind the seat? and how can i determine without lifting the body which wire on the car is postive and negative from within the battery box?

68 & up vettes have the battery behind the seat. The 67 and older vettes had them in the engine compartment.
Look at the negative cable it shoulld go through the box and ground to the frame. The positive cable is long and follows the transmission tunnel to the right side for the starter.

What they said.

What kind of manual is it? I would be hard put to believe anything else in that book if the writer was too ignorant of Corvettes to know that '68s & '69s had the battery behind the seat.

Gary, you nailed it, thanks. I bought a manual on Ebay that services C3 models. Its not a name brand like Chilton. It will now go into the trash. I feel much better knowing I still own a 69.

Free Advice: 86 the publication which said 68-69 Corvette batteries were in the engine compartment.
