Well - for certain classes - the 10.5W tire is the widest tire allowed..

I think in most of those 'certain classes' that has a maximum tire width (NHRA Stck, Super Stock, etc.), they also mandate you run a OEM-style (read I.R.S.) rear-end.
Picture is 'gone' now; musta been sold. Wish I could recall more about that particular Vette, tho; you've got me curious now...
