Default Auto Shifter Sticky

Hey Guys,

Ive finally got my vette near completion now im just tidying up a few loose ends.

One thing that has always bothered me is the shifter. Its the factory shifter which is really hard to go from 1 to 2. The amount of pressure required means it skips all the way to 3 or N. I took the cable off and the shift mechanism works smoothly. I got under the car and it feels like the shift lever on the TH400 gets jammed. As far as i know its a factory setup, the cable doesnt seem to be binding, its more like the angle of the cable to the lever is incorrect.

Any thoughts?

John

There are detents for each position on the transmission lever. If it stops at the right position, matching the shifter positions, it should be OK.

On my C3 running 4.11's I had to shift quicker than my old mind could think and had the same problem going past 2nd. I took the shifter out and studied the template that locks out park, reverse, etc. and carefully filed a notch where 2nd gear would stop. Now I can slam it as hard as I want and never miss 2nd. Of course, now I have to push the button to continue to 3rd (drive position) but that's no problem.

There was a time when you could buy an add on template that would do this same this but I haven't seen them around anymore.

No, but I wish I had. I've been asked several times about this. I no longer have the car but if you look at it, carefully study it and use common sense, you'll see where to notch it.
