Default What carb to get? What engine?

My dad and I own a 1980 L-82 that has a stock motor with many after market parts on it. We are planning on replacing the motor with a 330hp GM crate engine or unless something else is recommended? We were also thinking that a 670 cfm Holley Street Avenger carb would be the way to go for easy tuning and better top end. Btw, an edelbrock performer intake and aftermarket headers will be used on the engine. So, we want a reliable combo that also packs some respectable performance. Please give me some recommendations...thank you.

I think you'd be happier with ZZ4. I went that route in 79, and picked up the 650 Speed Demon Crate carb from BG, which is setup for the ZZ4. I went with mech secondaries. Happy with my decision. ZZ4 has more to offer.

Although I did the rebuild thing for my 79, I'm using the Dart Iron Eagle 180's, CompCam 262, Edelbrock EPS intake and the 670 Holley Street Avenger. The combo has worked out fine and has been a great, dependable daily driver. I've not dynoed but think my HP numbers would be in the 300+HP range.

The carb recommended right out of the GM parts catalog is the Barry Grant Road Demon Jr. 625 cfm. Or the Holley 600 cfm with electric choke. Edelbrock Vortech Performer RPM intake makes for a nice package.

Or you can go cheap like me, use your stock block, and just throw in a 383 stroker kit, nice cam, and good set of heads. Cheaper, and you'll be better off. For future modifications. I use a 650 on my setup, and it works great.

Yea I like the 383 stroker plan better. Torque monsters are great for street cars.

Have a 69 since new. Must have replaced the original Rochester a dozen times. Tried a Holly with poor results. Finally changed to a performer intake & Edelbrock Thunder 1806. THE CAR RUN S GREAT for the fist time in 35 years.
