When I pulled the pistons, I noticed that 1 had a top ring in the second ring location. My pistons spec for a 1/16" ring for both the top and second rings.
I did notice that all of the other second rings did not completely wear on the outer face. The very top edge was not shiny metal. For the top ring that was placed in the second groove, it was completly shiny.
So, I'm looking for opinions as to what effect this had on my oil consumption?
I think what your saying is that you suspect the pistion rings were not installed correctly or in the correct grooves. If this is the case, yes oil consumption would be a problem. Different pistion rings from different manufacturers have specific instructions how to install them. With most ring set you can not interchange the top ring with the bottom ring. They won't break in correctly.
