Can someone please explain to me why the nose emblem for an '81 vette is harder to find that the Loch Ness Monster? I've every online store / catalog I can come up with, and if they list it at all it's CALL. Even eBay came up empty. Best I can tell it's nearly identical to an '80, only black instead of chrome. Is that right? I suppose I suppose I can put an '80 on the front and call it good. It just baffles me.
Yeah, Corvette America's catalog says the same thing. Doesn't show up on the websites at all though. Weird. Wonder if there's a shortage of black paint
Evil 79 has the right answer. I had an '81 emblem on my '80 (shop put the wrong one on when it was repainted). I removed it and gave it to a forum member. Indeed, it was simply an '80, with paint (by then chipped) over the chrome. Rather than pay a fortune for a "hen's tooth", I'd simply whip out a can of spray paint.

I want a new one too What I have had explained to me is that after the car goes out of production a number of the parts are made and are sold as replacements. Unfortunately the '81 emblems are almost gone and no one is making a reproduction yet. I think the '80 emblem is identical excempt for the chrome border, I have been tempted to buy one and just paint the border black.

Reason: edited for spelling
The only difference is the chrome. Both are the same piece. If your not really concerned about it being 100% correct, go with the '80 nose piece. After all, what's wrong with a little more chrome on the car?
Or go to there home page http://www.corvette-paragon.com/ Select the online shopping link. Under searh by category select body. It should bring up some sub categories. Select emblems. It should be second from the bottom on page 5.
