There's a transmission linkage rod that goes from the trans up to the throttle lever on the carb. When you go to full throttle, the rod is pulled with the carburetor linkage and the trans downshifts.

That linkage is the first thing to check.

Thanks, the rod is what I'm missing. I've done most of the work on mine myself and I thought that may have been what I left off. Again---THANK YOU ALL A LOT.

A 69 should have a TH400 trans which uses an electronic kick down system (the TH350 used the rod system). Should be a switch above your right foot that is activated at WOT. Check the fiting at the rear drivers side of the trans to make sure everything is connected.

The switch is easilly adjusted. Pull the plunger all the way out (pull hard) and floor it. That's it.
Make sure there is power at the tranny when you floor it, if not check the switch for power. If there is, the solenoid in the tranny needs replacement. Joe

69 with a TH400 has the kickdown switch above gas pedal. I had the same problem on my 75. With the ignition key in the on position, I checked with a meter and engaged it by hand to see if I could hear the solenoid. I found that the switch wasn't working. I removed the switch and tried local parts stores with no luck. I was able to actually disassemble the switch, clean up the contacts (they were COATED with crud), reassemble and install. It has worked fine for over a year.
