Default Question??? 78 pace t-tops

i own a 78 pace vette and i recevied an additional set of smoke colored/ tinted t-tops with it. the lady whose husband owned it had an extra set. i have always assumed that the blue tinted/ mirrored ones were original, are they? Or are the extra set ( the smoke tinted ones that are not mirrored ) the original ones?

The mirrored blue tinted tops are original to the 78 Pace Car.

If the blue mirrored tops are real Libbey Owens Ford (LOF) M-1131's, buy a soft case for them and put them in a closet or somewhere that they will never be harmed. They are worth big bucks comparatively. I bought the passenger side M-1131 for my vette after breaking the original off of ebay for $450, and got an amazing deal. I was quoted $700+ to install a used piece of M-1131 glass in my top from a popular vette top website.

The driver's side is much more difficult to find.

Again, I think you would be well off to store the originals and use the others. If you break the others, they are replaceable, the M-1131's are slowly becoming closer to un-replaceable. I have read somewhere the last set of brand new M-1131's sold for $3,000.

The glass is date coded and should fall in the range of the other glass by six months. Most likely the smoke (gray) fall outside the date range...Pace Car glass tops will state "BLUE" along with a two-letter date code with one of the letters ending in "J" Look in the lower right-hand corner.

Default date codes

the glass on the car is date coded XJ. the passenger side t-top is LOF blue m-1131 and coded YJ. the driver side is also LOF blue m-1131 coded GA. what does this mean?
