My neighbor is about to convert a 71 big block car to power assist brakes. He has purchased the vaccuum assist booster and is about to drill 4 holes so that the booster can mount to the fire wall.
Have any of you done this coversion before? Do you have any suggestions for making this any easier? What about the rod that connects to the brake pedal, does that screw directly into the clevis on the manual rod?
We dont have any type of spacer or gasket for the new setup. Is that going to be a problem when it comes to adjusting the play?
Please email any thoughts you have on this conversion. thanks
Check out www.hydroboost.com. This is a better brake system than the power booster. It is also a lot smaller and if he is running a big block he might have clearance problems with the valve cover. You need to have a Corvette valve cover that is dimpled to clear the booster. Get more info before doing the booster swap.

Yes, but IIRC, either the clevis mounts to a different position on the pedal shaft and/or it's a different clevis altogether. I know the length from the clevis to the firewall is different for power v/s manual.

There is no adjustment from the pedal to booster. There's only 5-6 threads at the end of the booster rod, and it's meant to seat on the clevis.
I haven't done this on a Vette but have on several others. You need to get the rod lenghth, swing position and geometry correct or it will give you fits. I'd check the pedal shape, mounting height, and rod length on a stock car with PB first.
