I am an old boy who had one too many cuts and burns. I suggest investing $15 in a pair of mechanics gloves before you remove the first part in your restoration. Glove manufacturing technology has evolved like everything else and made available comfortable, dexterous and very protective gloves. Buy them and you will be glad you did. You can easily spend more on bandaids, salves, etc. and suffer with infections.
Just take your time going bolt by bolt if something doesn't come loose right away chances are there's another bolt somewhere, I dismantled my car that way without the manual, though I do have it for once I start rebuilding in the next couple months. It took me 3 months worth of nights and weekends to completely dismantle the 79 I have/had. The didgital camera is very helpful too, I have hunreds upon hundreds of pictures, alot by memory too, though I can say pulling it all apart myself gave me a much better idea and boost of confidence to actually build the car from the ground up.
Oh - you will need at least the space of a 2 car garage - more like 3.
I Second that one . Frame on one side and body on the other fills up the two car garage. Everything else has leaked into the dinning room and it has become an extension to the garage. I hope my late Wife, God bless her, isn't looking down and seeing the dinning room, she would kill me!
TIME & MONEY.... Did I mention MONEY... yeah... oh and a lot of time. Wait.. did I mention MONEY? Expect to pay 3 times your budget... and a lot of time.
And oh by the way, if you are **** like me and try to clean / blast / paint used rusty hardware all I can say is it's a waist of money and time. Just spend the extra money and buy ALL new hardware for the frame re-assembly. I think I spent $250-$300 for all new hardware after spending countless hours trying to get old **** to look like new stuff. Trust me on this one, from a big picture standpoint that $300 is small compared to the overall cost of a project like this. Hope this helps.
