Default Wiper Door???

Sometimes when driving the 69 vette the wiper door comes open-not always--i have checked the vac lines what else can cause this--also sometimes but not always the door goes closed when driving also?? Any ideas?? would be welcome--thanks Glenn

Glenn,

It sounds like you have an intermittent vacuum leak in the control side of the circuit. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a leaking wiper override switch under the dash that was causing the trouble. Another thought might be the check valve. You do not say, but if the wiper door only opens by itself when you are accelerating, then your problem may be with the vacuum check valve. The check valve is a silver metal thing that has three hose connections going to it and is located under the hood. Follow the main vacuum line from the intake manifold and you should run into it before you get to the vacuum reservoir.

Oops, forgot to tell you how to check it once you find it. You should not be able to blow through the side with the single port, if you can the check valve will not prevent the vacuum from escaping the reservoir.

Have the same thing going on with mine. For some reason (cam or carb)
I have very low engine vacuum, and at idle and stop lights I have the wiper door opening. I suspect my problem is low vacuum related. I recently read a thread that explained the whole wiper door operating theory. It was extremely informative but I don't remember who wrote it. Maybe an engine vacuum check is in order?

IN spite of everthing said about check valves, and hoses, and all that crap, I found one of the better fixes was taking apart the controll relay head band, and cutting/weakening the spring inside, so the relay takes much less vacuum suction to keep the door closed, ie...does not change signals to the canister....

I believe its the relay mounted on the backside of the front passenger side wheelwell. It should have three vacuum hoses connected to it.
