Instrument/Dash Lights not working
I'm a new '74 owner and am running in to a few problems with the wiring. I don't have a wiring diagram yet, but think I will get one soon. I installed a radio under the passenger side and in the process replaced all bulbs behind the instrument panel (not on the driver's side). After putting everything back together my instrument lights would not work. I have read previous articles on the subject and have problem solved to no avail. I do not think I had a short. I did have power to the fuse, however, when I hooked up a circuit breaker as I was problem solving I think I really shorted something out. I do not have any power to the fuse anymore. Could I have fried the wire somewhere? Will I have to rewire it from the fuse? I did tap into the battery terminal on the fuse block for permanent power for my radio, but when I removed it the fuse still blew on the instrument panel. Someone mentioned the instrument panel light dimmer rheostat. I think that might have been the problem. Is it difficult to drop the steering column in order to get the drivers side dash out to replace the light switch? Is is hard to remove the fuse panel and run a new wire to the instrument cluster. (that is if I fried the wire somewhere). I'm pretty good at electrical work, have the patience and am willing to learn. It's kinda fun working on vette and solving problems. However, I am stuck on this one. Can anyone help?
