Were all cars built in 1970 equiped with a smog system? Or could a car that was built for shipment to a specific state that did not have smog requirements be built without it.
I am looking at a documented 2 owner car out of a midwestern state that does not have smog, nor does it have exhaust manifolds that were prepped for smog. I failed to check the casting numbers. The second owner has had the car since the mid 80's and claims he never changed them. They appear to have been painted at some point but he has only put 5k miles on it in 20 years.
Comments, input??
My 70 L46 is an early one and never had a smog pump. For more specific info look in Vette Vues Fact Book 1968-1972. It says that the 350 HP L46 and the base 300 HP had no A.I.R. equipment. The LT1 did.

All Corvettes were equipped or configured for emission controls...only LT1 motors were installed with A.I.R. pumps. All others were calibrated with CCS or controlled combustion system which depended on carb, timing calibrations. No extra equipment on these.
Now having said that...if the car was headed for California...it was ordered with NA9 or evaporative control system...the charcoal canister with hoses and valves to control fuel vapor emissions.

That was it for 1970
Are you saying that not all '70 Vettes have the charcoal cannister????? If so, what about '71?????? Just curious because it might mean my Vette was originally a California car............

Only Corvettes ordered with NA9 in 1970 had the canister and all 1971's!
As Hunt4cleanair stated only the LT1 were stock with air pumps. I believe there was only one casting for the right and one for the left exhaust manifolds. The boss was drilled out for the engines equiped with air pumps.
