Default OT: Filter/drier for compressor

I've got a Campbell Hausfeld filter/drier attached directly on the out port of my compressor (5hp, 20gal), and then a 20ft line or so hard rubber line, and then the connection point for whatever.

Problem is, the drier is not drying at all - trying to blow out dust from the frame and all kinds of water is spraying out. Is there something wrong with the filter, or is it in the wrong place (it's installed in the correct direction for the airflow, there's an arrow on top ) - something to do with the length of hose?

Thanks,
Jim

You need a drier or a water separator. Filters will remove some water but not a lot since they are designed to filter solid particles.

Desiccant driers are great. I picked one up at Princess Auto for $50 and it will flow 17 CFM.... more than enough.

make sure you drain the water out of your compressor each time u use it. also if it is really humid where u are, that cause also add to a moisture problem in the lines

The drier needs to be located away from the compressor 20- 30 feet not right next to it.

Check ou tthis link for some answers

All good responses so far.

I have 4 water separators on my system and it still blows water.
The dessicants work well, but must be replaced periodically... that adds up $$$.

Been battling with this for years.... had enough...

I'm going to get one of these:

http://www.mcmaster.com/

Aftercoolers & Condensate Separators ... Fan-Cooled Aftercoolers
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*These aftercoolers use a fan to cool hot air coming from your compressor. The cooling action condenses most of the damaging water from your compressed air system (a condensate separator with drain is required to collect condensed water-see 43775K on this page). The scfm ratings are based on cooling hot compressed air to within 15°Â*Â*F of the ambient air. Max. temperature is 250°Â*Â*F.
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Mount on the floor or a wall. Can also be suspended from the ceiling using brackets provided. The 20 through 240 scfm units have steel housing and heat exchanger with aluminum fins and copper tubing. 400 scfm unit (not pictured) has aluminum tubing. All have a Â*1/2-hp, single-phase motor that operates at 115 VAC, 60 Hz, unless noted. Motor is UL recognized and CSA certified. Max. air pressure is 250 psi. Inlet and outlet connections are NPT male.
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*To select the proper aftercooler size, match the flow rate of your compressed air system (in scfm) to the values listed below.

Max. scfm Pipe OverallÂ*Size, Â*
@100Â*psi Size Ht.Â*xÂ*Wd.Â*xÂ*Dp. Each Â*

I have not had issues with water. My compressor is on one end of my shop. It has a short rubber line that goes to a 3/4 hard line (PVC-I know, I know) that rises to ceiling level. Then the hard line gradually drops about 18" over 50 feet of shop. There is an outlet in the center of the building and an outlet on the far end. At both outlets I use an 18" piece that extends past the outlet with a drain valve on the bottom. My theory is that most water falls back into the compressor, what doesn't falls into the seldom used center outlet. If it gets past that it falls out at the end. I have done a lot of sandblasting and have never had any moisture issues. I drain the compressor and outlets about every month. Usually I get a fair amount from the compressor, a few tablespoons from the center, and a few drops from the far end.
