Default Shark Bar for 68-72's?

I'm looking for a version of the "Shark Bar" for 68-72's, to allow aftermarket 5-point belts. I did a search, but all that came up was one for 74-82's. Is there one for 68-72's?

Actually, I don't believe they make one. I think the shark bar mounts to the coupes seat belt bolts..? I thought of making one for 68-74 Verts... I have not taken measurements but I know it is not that difficult. A round tube and two welded flat ends to bolt somewhere... hmmm... maybe where the convertible top mounts to the sides.... hmmmm How many would be interested?

How about where the shoulder belts bolt to the top of the wheel well. Already reinforced. Looking at my car, the convertible top mounting pounts are too far forward relative to the seat back.

I had emailed them awhile back and asked about a sharkbar for the earlier vettes and Dan replied that they were working on one. I emailed them yesterday asking where they were at with our sharkbar and I'm still waiting for a reply. I'd love one in my 73. Rod

I have asked them multiple times over the last year or so and have always been told that on is in the works. My car is in the shop now having a roll cage put in with a harness bar. I wonder how many orders they could have taken if they moved a little faster on what is surely a simple peice to make.

I'm gonna look at my set-up tonite, and see if I can "make" one. I have the chop saw, sander, welder, and VISA, so I guess anything is possible! I'd rather "buy" than "make", but if it my only choice.....I'll make.

I looked at this last night. It is possible to mount a bar to the convertible bolts. IF ITS ONLY PURPOSE TO MOUNT A CAMERA OR NONFUNCTIONAL ROLL BARS. I don't think it would withstand any type of severe impact. It also may reduce some flexing, however the sheetmetal behind the seats probably already does this well! The mounting points are obviously strong enough, they support the converible frame assembly.

The problem with 68-72 coupes is that they have a removable rear window. If they made the bar I would think they would want to design it so you can still take out the rear window if you like.

he is almost done with the 68-69 convertible Shark Bar
and the 70-73 will be done shortly after. The problem is that he is a
1 man operation and getting someone to leave their Corvette for a week
or two so he can get measurements and do testing isn't always possible.
He is working hard at getting the early Shark years fitted for the
Shark Bars.

Yep, Dan's been working on it as best as he can. He is making progress and should have something soon. Stay tuned.

Here is a set that I developed about 6 months ago. If everything goes right within the next few weeks you will be seeing them in Mid-America and Ecklers. Let me know if anyone is interest in a set. I might be able to do a introductory offer.

Note: This is a direct bolt in package that does not interfere with the kinematic movement of the convertible top, i.e. everything remains functional.

"Shark Bars" = NOT NHRA legal. Probably not legal for competition with any sanctining body since they're bolt-in.
