Have a 78 with 454. Motor is going together now..should show about 450hp. Cam is an Edlebrock 7162 with quite a bit of lift and duration and power from 1500-6500 rpm. What stall converter would you recommend? I'm guessing at about 2500?? Or should it be lower for the torque this motor makes.

Your best results will come from asking a Convertor manufacturer. Not a phone guy at Summit or some such place. Call the manufacturer of whatever company you want to buy from. If they ask you alot of questions you know you picked the right place to buy from. They are the experts, at least I would hope so, in their field and they want you to be happy with the product.

They need to know tire diameter, gear ratio, cam specs, intake manifold type, carb size, headers or stock manifolds, intended use, typical cruise rpm on the hiway, etc.

The more information, the better your results will be. I know some people just throw on a B&M 3000 rpm out of a catalog (this is in not trying to speak ill of those that do, or any above company) and never really know if they bought the best convertor for the money.

I always tell people...plan your drivetrain and make sure everything works as a Complete Package. I don't know about you, but I don't like buying things twice.

Good luck,
Jeff

completely, but my "guess" 1800 rpm's would work on a streeter

Things like advertised stall are not the real number in many cases. Make the call. Even the magazines suggest calling the mfg.

I 'guessed' on what size convertor I'd need, luckily Patsnitrovette had exactly what I wanted, I installed it and it works fine. I went with a 2200 TCI non lock up on a 350 with a 268 cam.

I might have a little more convertor then I really need, but its nice to leave it in gear and not have the car kreep forward
