Default Holley Carb question..which one???

Called up holly and told them what cam I had and they recommended the Sreet Avenger 670. My mechanic recommended that I get a 650 double pump holley and says that we has used these to great results. I am a little worried that this one might run to rich for my small 350 block, but I really want to get the car running good and fast.

My main purpose for updating my carb is for performance and not for fuel economy, but I also want something dependable - oh the questions - Is the 670 street avenger a decent carb..

I dont want to make a mistake and get the wrong one!!!

I am stuck with what carb to get..any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

I can't imagine a 650 DP running to rich for a small block but the thing you have to learn is how to open up those secondaries when the car is ready for them. For instance - Don't mash the throttle down when the engine is cold because you will just be pumping raw gas down into the pistons. They will use more gas for sure. I have the 650 and am very happy with it, on the other hand the 750 used to foul my plugs like crazy, partly because of the cam I was running.

Vacuum secondaries are really preferable for the street but you can't deny the pleasure of opening those secondaries on demand.

Unless you beat the snot out of the car, go with the street avenger. I put one on a mild 454 in a street rod and loved it.

I have the Holley 650 DP on my L46 (350/350) and it runs fine.

650DP here.
No issues after getting the correct jets in there.
It could probably use a good dialing in, but; now it runs fine.

This was the carb on the car when I got it.
I would probably go with a vacuum secondary if I were to purchase it myself.

I would stick with a Q-jet as a 1st choice. If you are sold on a Holley then I would go with a 650 cfm, elec. choke and vacuum secondaries. Forget the double pumper for the street its a nice carb for the track only.

Mark,
You will save money and gas if you go with the model 3310 vacuum secondary 750. It is the low cost generic 750 performance carb that works well on anything.

If you have a stick shift, I like (and run) the classic model 4777 650 DP or the model 3310 vacuum secondary. Just depends on your preference. The 650 DP is fun to "wind up and punch it" but the 3310 is better on gas and drivabillity overall.

I would not run a DP "anything" on an automatic tranny car. Just no big benefit and uses more gas.

Just my opinion.

-Mark.

I've run the 670 Street Avenger for well over a year now without any problems. The installation was simple and no mixture adjustments were needed. The carb puts out everything my 355 wants.
