Default Exhaust questions.

Thinking of changing my stock exhaust on my 71 to Long tube headers with chambered exhaust. (Wife does not like side pipes). Header tubes come with both 2" and 2.5" adapters. I would like to go with the 2.5" system but does that mean I would have to replace my brand new chrome exhaust tips which are stock and 2"????????

Hello, i just did all that to my 71. i went with hooker supercomp with the midamerica 2.5" chamberd system for headers. that system will you your stock tips becouse it drops to 2" at the end for easy fit. If you go with this you will be super happy, i really love the sound of my car now it sounds like a vette should. it is kinda loud but i can have a conversation if i speak up alittle.

If sound is what you're lacking you'll LOVE the chambered pipes.

I have a 2 1/2 system all the way back. I had them pull out the 2 inch pipe in the tips and weld in a 2 1/2 pipe. Looks stock but is 2 1/2 all the way through.

Do your homework and match the primary size and tube length to the typical rpm range that you use.

I ran 2.5" mandrel bend pipes and opened up the chrome tips to accept the full diameter.

Be aware that chambered pipes reduce the effective diameter of the pipes thus increasing backpressure.
