As far as I know the Stingray logo was dropped in 76 when Bill Mitchell left GM. It was he with his pasion for game fishing that gave us the Stingray, Mako Shark etc. My dates might be slightly wrong and I think that in most peolpl'e eyes ANY C3 is a Stingray.
The Stingray name (one word) was dropped in mid 77 when they switched to a crossed flags emblem. In general all C-3 are considered stingrays even though they don't all carry the name. 68 does not have the Stingray script either.
First off I rarely go on these boards but I was trying to track down Steve Kamis the original guy that built/had someone build the Merlin corvette. I am the owner of the car now and have been for awhile and some of the things Ive read about this car are totally misleading..Yes the car had cooling problems on the first 2 test runs..TEST RUNS like any custom built car there are always bugs to work out after putting it together..That problem was solved almost right away, as for floating the valves?? I dont know were that came from? Ive never had that problem!! Granted I very rarley drive this car but I have put on approx. 100 miles this summer and have never had any problems..The car is completely drivable and is driven. The only problems Im having with the car are traction problems which I dont mind..Its actually pretty fun to break the tires lose at 75-80mph..I didnt buy the car to road race it or do I claim its anything near what the F1 car is, I bought it because it had a killer look and was very well put together..every nut, bolt, washer and screw is new in that car. I dont think they used any old parts except for the body and frame..The car has gone through a couple sets of spark plugs but that is very common with that kind of horse power from just starting it up and shuting it off..The car is a fun driver and is reliable and just to clue a few guys in the claims of 1200hp are correct I had the car dyno'ed just over a month ago in Minneapolis and it peaked out at just over 1270hp and its capible of more with different pulleys. Id put it up against any small block as far as horse power go's any day of the week.. The car is a brut to say the least..unlike what Ive read about the builder I am a wrench head and do know how to work on cars and have built quite a few..never a Vette as Im a Camaro and Chevelle guy but I can say the car is well put together. I could care less if people like the car or not..but plain and simple its a well built nice car that has had the BUGS worked out of it! Im not some ego freak that says look at me!! thats half the reason why I dont drive the car that often and besides the fact I perfer my driving my Camaros..I just wanted to set the record straight on the car because I plan on taking it to Barrett-Jackson this winter and they are using it as one of the feature cars for the auction and I dont think the Bull Sh*t thats being said about the car will help it. Im not trying to be an a** hole but Im definately not the type of guy that rips other peoples cars or makes up B.S. stories about them to make myself or my car feel/look better..
