Long water pump
Is there any reason a long water pump cant be used on our cars?

The vette pump is 'special', it is heavy duty with a 3/4" snout (thing the pulley slides onto) while most pumps are 5/8" and they are also a touch longer than a short pump from what I understand. The pumps where also used on trucks.
I think you can use a long pump with a sb if you change out the pulleys and brackets, think a bb long pump will make the crank pulley hit the crossmember.

I want to use the long pump because I can change out the brackets.

Short pump and long pump diffenece other than shaft is the pulley alignment....with crank, power steering, a/c, alt...lot of hassle to make sure you dont flip belts.

not the issue...you may have an issue with the "squareness" from upper
pulleys lining up with crank pulleys...may need to add spacer to crank...

This is true, I am also switching to serpentin setup from a 91
rs camaro. only one belt.

Its gonna be awhile I am heading to korea for awhile. I am gonna build a new engine from scratch.
