Just got a new radiator support for my '73 from TLD. It does not have the two holes in the top center of the support for the center bracket that bolts on there. The guy at TLD swears that I have the correct support and the one in my car must be wrong for a '73.
The one in my car looks very old, very rusted and I'm guessing is probably the original.
Can anyone confirm what years had the top center bracket and what the support I have is likely for? Is this one from TLD a generic support maybe?
The '73 did use a center support for the shroud. In 74 they went to a mount on each side and no center mount. Believe that the 73 is a one year only item so is very hard to find and the "service" replacement it the 74 support. I replaced one on mine, it was like yours without the center mount. So I just drilled new holes in the center. Worked perfectly (just has an extra set of holes on each side which really does not hurt anything unless you are going for Top Flight or BG Certification).
Wow, I learn something new every day. My 73 must have a newer stile support. I replaced the fan shroud about 9 years ago and they gave me the one you see here-engine compartment
I did know that the front end had been damaged in the past but not to what extent. Must be the support had been changed at that time.
I just got off the phone with James at TLD. He did some leg work on the issue and said that the early '73's had the center support but late '73 on had them at the corners. Don't know if that's NCRS accurate but it looks like if you have the center bracket you just drill holes and be happy.
