I have 2 questions to ask, and just to qualify them I have never worked on an engine before, so I'm still unfamiliar with a lot of things. Here goes.
1) How do you remove the spark plug that is nearest the front of the car, on the driver side. I cannot get my wrench in there to get it out, even with a swivel socket, becuase the alternator (I think anyways, the shiny silver thing) is in the way.
2) How important is it for the engine to be near operating temperature when you check the cylinder compression. It seems to me that it would be very difficult to get all of the spark pulgs out while the engine is still warm and check all of the cylinders in that short period of time.
You can loosen the alternator and swing it up out of the way and get a little better access at it. (really easy if ya can find a 8-10 year old with small arms and come up from the bottom)
Just put the tester on it and crank it a few times
I remove mine from underneath. Fairly easy to reach. If you have an A/C car like my 70 the right hand side is even worse. Definitely need to go from below.
welcome can you maybe get the socket in and use a wrench
on the socket?? Oh ya' you need a plug socket with a wrench end
That is exactly what I tried to do, get the socket in first, but between the alternator and the headers, there is no way to turn the wrench, it's driving me nuts. I guess I'll have to swing the alternator out of the way.
