No doubt the L88 was a legend but there are lots of C3's on the forum today that can outmuscle it.

The L-88 has been at the top for stock a long time.

Ganey your right but he's speaking of from the factory power levels i.e. ordered directly from GM. Not modded with aftermarket stuff.

No doubt, but the most impressive aspect of the L88 was that it could proform in all areas. It excelled in both Drag Racing and Road Racing. Other cars of the day were faster in some areas ('68 Hemi Lightweight Darts for example) but try taking a turn in that same Dart and you'll have the ride of your life.

The great thing about the car hobby today is how the technology has advanced since the late 1960's.

That statement I doubt, you obviously have never owned or driven one. They are absolutely awsome! The only thing it can`t pass is a gas station. Confirmed personal times in 1969 with only slicks and headers of 11.2 at 120 MPH+ 1/4 mile at Detroit Dragway driving it to and from the track.

What, no ZL-1?

That and the L-88 were why my friends and I had it in our heads when we were kids that the '69 Vette was the fastest of them all, and that we had to get '69 Vettes when we grew up.

'Course, we were right, after a fashion.

No Ironcross I have never been fortunate to be give the opportunity. But there is no way a naturally aspirated 427 can outmuscle alot of the forum members cars. While 600 horse was something back in it's day today it is common place. Any 540 can put that out, my blown big block certainly passes that by alot and the 501 crate motors are right around 500 horse, close I know but not quite.
To me owning a L88 would be for bragging rights only beside being worth a fortune.
I am not knocking it but I repeat alot of forum member can outmuscle it today.

The ZL1 was a beast as well. I always found it interesting that the L88 made more power than the ZL1, G.M. stated this was do to the L88's iron block. The ZL1's aluminum block let off too much heat which slowed combustion, but the weight saving of the aluminum made up for the loss in power.

Agreed that is nothing short of _awesome_ for the day. Heck its great TODAY!! I don't know any American-made factory car today that would run that time with slicks (maybe a new Viper on a downhill track). But there are numerous forum members, as Norval pointed out, who could not only beat that time with slicks, but get better gas mileage and run on 93 octane.

Granted, that doesn't make any of them an L88. Awesome car that I'm sure many car enthusiasts would love to own. I'd be scared to drive it, I'm afraid.
