Removed PCV Valve (Lesson Learned)
While I was aggressively removing all of the smog equipment I could on my 1980 I removed and plugged the PCV. The first issue I ran into was that oil began pushing up through my breather. So, I called Edelbrock and installed a baffle. This caused a big issue... The gromet (unknowingly) pressed against the baffle which effectively sealed the engine. As pressure built, oil seeped (no, it streamed) from the valve cover gaskets and directly onto my headers.
After looking like James Bond 007 going down the road...I spent this morning reinstalling my PCV and correcting the breather gromet issue. Now all is better...
Bottom line... If you have a PCV on your engine... leave it alone. Chances are that you will not get any additional hp from taking it off anyway.
Do you remember what the differences in oil presure are i.e. before and after you took the PCV valve off and on? Thanks
my pressure was something like 40 whenit was off and now with the vaccum hooked back up its like 55 almost 60 at high Rpms. really good for this small beast of an engine (190hp for the cali cars)
