The answer is 1967 (PF-141 canister type). All 1968 and 1969 SBs and BBs used a spin-on-type oil filter: Type PF-25.

Strange, when I went to Pep Boys they told me that the AC filter for my '69 BB is PF454.

They since discontinued pf25 and pf35. I think the replacements are pf454 and pf1218, respectively. IMO, the pf25 replacement was too small, so I went to the pf35 replacement and all is well.

Thanks for input
i have a 1968 396 its has the canister filter
Ive seen L-88 from 68 w/ canister filters
i can go to the auto parts store and pick up canister filters for 1968
so it can not be 1968?(that had spin on filters)
If it is , has to be mid year or something
Thanks
