I spent 3 hours under my 69 yesterday trying to remove the oil filter. I have always had a truck so the tight quarters under the vette were frusterating in themselves, but the this friggin' filter would not come off. I used two types of wrenches, and then resorted to the screwdriver method. When that failed, I used a 3/4" iron spike and after pounding with a sledgehammer for another half hour it finally broke loose.
sounds like the person who put that filter on had a little too much strength in that arm.
Today I changed out the fan clutch in my '69, and I could NOT loosen the bolts holding it in. I thought "Wow, Nani must be stronger than he looks! Dude must have arms like a gorilla!" (Nani is a friend of mine, and the guy who installed the fan clutch some years back.)
Then I realized...because I was turning the bolt from behind, I was tightening the bolt, not loosening it. Righty - tighty; lefty - loosey.
I've had the same problem several times before on my vehicles. Turns out that I'm the one who put all of the darn filters on to begin with. Since I quit using a filter wrench to give them a little extra and now only use my hand to snug them, I've quit having the problem.

A filter wrench? This thread needs a bump. An oil filter's gasket should have a thin coat of fresh oil, and you should always turn a filter hand tight.....if that. I always turn it until it's snug, then an extra 1/4 turn.

Golden rules - place a thin coat of oil on the gasket, and only turn the filter 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn after the gasket makes contact.
