I set up a really cool radio in my 68 corvette...It is mounted in the passenger side glove box...It is really cool until I have to change the station I have a remote, but it doesn't do really well when the lid is closed...this is not however the question of this thread.
I still have the stock radio in, because I want to keep a somewhat factory look...and I want the courtesy lights to light up when I have the lights on...
my question is, is it ok to have the radio on with out a speaker load?

I have heard that it is bad to do that, but when you are dealing with such low power, and if ther is almost no input signal then it may not be an issue.
I think I remember reading somewhere that you can just use a resister as a load to protect the amplifier.
TO help with the question you didn't ask Xantech makes infa-red extension kits. I think they run on 12v so an install in a car should be painless.
To be safe you should add a 8 ohm, 1-2 watt resistor to each channels output. As you will not be "cranking the volume", you could get away with using a 10 ohm or take 3-22 ohm, 1/2 watts and twist them in parallel. Either of these two standard values will be available at Radio Shack.
