Default anyone using the 268 high energy

Looks like I won't have enough $$ for a roller cam conversion but I'm thinking about the 268 high energy (not the extreme energy). The high energy is actually emmission legal and desktop dyno says
360 peak horsepower, 410 peak torque and
281 average horsepower, 377 average torque from 2000 to 6000. The average torque is what I'm excited about since I'm planning to put my 3.08 gears back in my car to go along with my tremec 5 speed.

I was wondering if anyone else was using this cam in a 350 and what there impression of it were. Thanks in advance.

Corz is running the CC 268, not sure if it's the high energy profile but I do know it's the 268 duration.

I used the high energy 268 in my motor, but have not started it up yet so I can't give you any impressions of it. I did a full rebuild of my motor, .020" over, flat tops, HE 268 cam and lifters, picked up a set of 041 heads, Edlebrock performer intake, Hedman hedders and 650 Holley. Anything will be better than it was (stock L48 77 vintage)

I agree my stock 75 is in the same boat. Are 041 heads iron or alum? When do you plan on starting it up?

I ran the Comp 268H for 120,000 miles in my 355,prior to the 406 swap.Not a bad cam,but nothing spectacular.Idled smooth,pulled to 5500.Got 17 mpg average with the 3.70 rear gears.

I'm running the 268 High Energy in my engine. The only other motor mods are Dynomax headers, a Performer manifold and air pump delete. I have no idea how much hp I have. I still have the 2-1-2 exhaust, but with a high flow cat. The previous owner did all the work and it did pass emissions for him in Spokane, WA. I don't have to test in my area, so my next mod will be true dual exhaust. I haven't been to motivated to do it though as the car runs pretty strong as is. The previous owner said that the difference was night and day, from before and after the mods.

Have had my HE268 for about 3 years. No problems and it runs the way I expected it to. Idle is a little lumpy @ 750-800 rpm, but with my other engine mods, it will pull to 6000 rpm. I read somewhere that, if you had good flowing intake and exhaust, the HE was a better choice than the XE. It is a little doggy off idle but comes on strong @ 1200-1500 rpm. This cam would probably work best with a standard transmission or an auto with a higher stall.

Thanks for the responses guys. Cool video corey. Anyone have any 1/4 mile times? Seems like I could go a little bigger but I'm not sure a little HP gain is worth the emissions hassle

you rang?

I have the XE 268, but its pretty much the same thing.
It didnt put out as much hp as I wanted to, but the amount of torque in this thing is absolutely ungodly for a smallblock.

Well torque is what I'm looking for so I might be on the right track but i think the xe268 is a lot bigger then the he268. But you can fit what I know about cams on the head of a needle

Cool video by the way

True the xe268 is bigger than the h268 but because the xe268's lobes are much steeper it has a better low end response than you would think.

What am I looking for on that page? I must admit that cam specs still have me scratching my head. One of Comp cams suggestions was the xe268. I just though it was kind of "lumpy" to pass emmisions. Hence I picked the he268 instead.

Watch the note that comp cams higly reccommends replacing all stock valvetrain parts with the XE, but if you would like to evaluate this further comp cams has this 1 800 number to call their technicians, and when i called them they helped me quite a bit, so im sure you could ask them about passing emissions with the xe, if you would prefer that way, and about the valvetrain, i would be willing to bet you could stay stock at the 268, i think thats just sortof a precaution to cover their ***, ask about that too. I ended up going with the xe268, but i dont have to pass emissions.

billambeer,
I've called Comp and Crane a couple times. They give slightly different answers each time which makes me a bit uneasy. Maybe I'll call again and see what they say.

Not Corvette-related, but 268H-related.....

Years-ago, a buddy had a '76 T/A with a Poncho 400 & 268H cam (4-bbl/intake/headers, etc.) that ran low-14s @ 97 MPH on pump-gas.
The cam in my Z28 was 'almost-like' the Chevy 268H-equivalent cam (.450" lift/218* duration at .050"), and ran a tenth slower than him, round-for-round, at the track.

I think the 268H in a SBC will pull to 5500 easy w/ 'junk' heads, and to/past 6000 with good heads & intake.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks Glensgages numbers sure do help. I think my alum edebrock performer rpm's flow pretty well. Should be an interesting combination. My goal is to make 13's which sounds like I could be right there.
