Default Ignition wire routing

Anyone know the secret to routing the ignition wires to the front two plugs on each side of a 77? Mine go through some fixed covers under the engine and body which are very hard to get to, and are too thin to allow the wire boots to pass through. I'm trying to replace the wires and can't figure out how to get the new ones through the channeling. The channels (I assume for shielding) don't even show up in my assembly manual, but look factory.

Hehe. I just went through that for the first time a couple of weeks ago. There is the "right" way and "cheat" way as far as I'm concerned. I chose the "right" way.

The wires go through the motor mounts. To do it right, you need to put a jack (with a piece of wood so you don't hurt anything) under the oil pan. Remove the three bolts on each motor mount and then raise the engine about an inch. You can then slide the wires though.

The "cheat" way is to just remove the boots from the wires and then slide them through. You will then need to reattach the boots with the appropriate wire glue.

The following provides more detail:

Is it still cheating if the wire set doesn't already have the boots and terminals attached?

I guess not. In fact, if I had known what I was getting into I would have not purchased wires with boots attached.

Of course removing the two chrome shields helps a lot. Joe

Put a little silicone grease on the DISTRIBUTOR END boot of the plug wire. You can then easily PUSH the wires DOWN through the motor mount.

Do the #1 (#2) wire first then slide the wire back and do #3 (#4) next as there isn't room in the motor mount to cross the wires over one another.

The tin shields are a PITA in any case.

WOAHHHHHH... I would not RECOMMEND jacking the motor using the oil pan. YOU ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE! No offense to this suggestion... on second thought, yes there is... SORRY... !

This is not a good idea! This is almost as bad as jacking it at the balancer!

No offense taken. I simply quoted what was stated in the article I referenced in my first post: http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/83258/
