I have the original carpet in my 69. It in very good, not worn but it is dirty and some areas are faded. Has anyone had carpet cleaned and re-dyed? Can it even be done? I've tried all sorts of carpet cleaners and they help but it still doesn't have that fresh look. Any ideas? I reaaly don't want to replace the carpet unless I have no choice.
I recently replaced just the front carpets on my 76. It took about 4 hours. The carpet was only $139.00 from Ecklers.
I once had a 67 ElCamino that I spray painted the carpet. HA HA HA!! It turned out great. Not really very soft to the touch but it really looked nice. Of course I sold the car immediately.
IMHO, the new carpet was so cheap and easy to install. That would be my recommendation.
I have used replacement carpet in the past and it just doesn't fit like the OEM or look like it. Romeo engineering is the only one with the logo but their lead time is excessive. I would relly like to keep my original.
I know what you mean about quality and fit of the carpet. Hopefully someone will chime in with a recommendation for a good dye. I am surprised to read about a 69 with good original carpet. The set in my car was TRASHED...and I have a fairly low mileage car.
Actually I was surprized too when I found that it was the original. I just by chance looked for the football shaped logo and it was there. This little logo is amost invisible unless you know where to look and even then it is difficult to see. The carpet has been out of the car and a heat barrier installed, (no by me). My car also has the original door panels. I have mixed feeling on the seats. I believe they are original but....
