Default Need help, can't start 80 vette!

Just put the motor in my vette, and here is what is going on; When I turn the key to 'start', the motor fires up, but as soon as I let the key go back to 'run' position, it dies. Also I have NO power anywhere. No lights, radio, wipers, etc. I do not understand this. I checked all the fuses, and had to replace 3, so something happened, but I am not sure what. I looked at the fusible links off the starter, but they look good, I don't know if they blister or anything if blown.

I don't know why I have power to the motor in start, but apparently no juice anywhere else. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You are going to have to find the break in the main power feed to the inside of the car. That is the cause of the no run condition. Look again at the starter connections and the links and the bulkhead connector. The reason that it will start and cut right back off is that the starter has a bypass start circuit that applies full voltage to the ignition at start up, but disengages as soon as the solinoid is released.

When you say look for a break in the main feed, what should I be lookung for? And where are the obvious spots? I am not certain what to be looking for.
Thanks.

Hi Spinedoc,

No manual in front of me so I don't have the wire descriptions, but I'd suggest starting with the starter and selenoid. You are likely missing a conection since you have just replaced the motor. At least once you find the missing conection, this should be an easy fix.
