Default Tire Size for '75

I know that this has probably been asked before, but... I currently have Ralley wheels with 225/70/R15 tires. I got a nice set of corvette aluminum wheels ('79 vintage) from e-bay that I am polishing. If I go with 255/60/R15 tires (which I know will fit the wheel) will there be any clearance/interference issues, particularly with the front power steering system?

Thanks!

Yes, this question was asked last week- so I'll give the same reply. I made the same wheel & tire change in the late '70's and surveyed many '78's to observe tire clearance. In '78 the factory ground out the lower front of the wheel wells to clear the 255-60R15 tires. I duplicated the contour on my '75 using a belt sander. Without removing this material, the tires would definitely rub the front of the wheel.
Others have said that they've installed the same tires with no interference so you can try it and find out.

The factory also notched the inside rear corner of the rocker panel/wheel well while in the rear, factory notched the inside front corner.

Nick- Ive been running the 255-60-15's on my 74 for about 4years now, and have not had a problem with rubbing. Some say they will rub others say they will not. Part of that I think is due to the suspension of your car. If its old and worn, chances are they will rub. If you have rebuilt your suspension, chances are the tires will not rub.

Sorry, I forgot about that. I made the same notches on mine. Not a big job. If you do it carefully, you can do paint touch-up with a brush.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'll just have to try them and see (or stick to the 225/70/R15)!
