I was going to freshen up my front grills, the small metal ones under the nose that hold the front turn markers. Mine were black. I figured I would repaint them. I used a solvent to strip away some grime and find shinny, chrome underneath. Not real chrome, like the cheap plasticy stuff you find over plastic parts to make them look metal. In pics and catalogs I have seen the grills seem to be black. Should they be black or chrome. Did bubba paint my chrome ones black?
ALSO...removed my falling apart front spoiler. I was going to replace it, but not sure if I want to. Im running the Dewitts dual elec fan setup and have no cooling problems. Will running without a spoiler cause any probs, cooling or otherwise? Will my fans have to run more often?
Lastly I have seen pics of other years (not sure which), that seem to have a small grill where i have a licence plate. What years had the grill and can I bolt one on instead of my plate/plate bracket? I would like the look much better.

I can help with the front grille question. I see you have a '73 also. The original front grilles are supposed to be metal, and black with just the leading front edge being chrome. Whoever had it before you decided to just repaint the whole thing black. My guess is they either did it because it is easier that way, or they preferred the look.
Yeah, there is a grille you can put in place of the license plate bracket, but they can be hard to find, and are usually pretty pricey to get. It does look better, and it will also allow more airflow for cooling the engine. If you don't need a front license plate it is an option, but good luck finding one.
I removed the license plate frame from the front of my 71. The grill behind it is set back, to allow space for the plate frame. That looked funny, so I took some 1-inch wide strips of steel and created a way to have the grill line up with the other two. They look good now.
