Does clutch need replacment?

Default Does clutch need replacment?

I'm replacing my 190 HP L-48 engine within the next few weeks with a 380 HP ZZ4. I've heard that the stock clutch won't be able to handle the increased horsepower... can anybody verify this?

I need a new flywheel for sure. Does this need to be balanced with the rotating assembly? Please say no.

Can anybody recommend a reasonably priced clutch and flywheel combo? Has to be 11" with a one-piece rear seal.

I am running a Centerforce on mine. It holds up to my 400+ HP engine just fine. You should net have to balance anything just get the flywheel for an interanl balanced engine. I would replace the clutch. The old one probably has some miles on it and it is pretty weak.

Since you're already pulling the motor, it's always a good idea to replace the clutch, pressure plate, and through-out bearing. If you're only doing the crusin' thing and daily driving, I wouldn't go into any heavy duty clutch & etc. Stock should be just fine.

Glad I don't have to balance the flywheel. That's an added complication that I just don't need.

Staying with the stock clutch sounds pretty good... I'll just order it from Eckler's. It definitely will hold up to the 380 HP during normal driving conditions?

When I swapped out my TH 350 Auto to a 4 speed on my 80 my speed shop recommended a 85 vette flywheel and clutch. They say its a lighter flywheel assembly and provides a much improved peddle feel. But I did also have to change to a 85 vette starter to match the clutch housing. I cant compare it to a stock unit as I have never driven one. But I can say I like the feel of the 85 vette clutch and flywheel so far.

Since youve got 'easy access' to it, you might as well. It will probably save you alot of work in the future.
