Default Coil Condenser

Where does the condenser that is mounted on the coil bracket attach to electrically? Also, is this condenser the same type that is in the distributor?
Thanks,
Claude

There is a condensor in the distributor that prevents the points from pitting. The device that I think you are talking about is the ballast resistor that is mounted on the coil. This lowers the voltage from 14 volts to around 9 prior to going into the coil. This also prevents the coil from burning out the points with too great a charge.

On a 1970 there is a capacitor that mounts to the coil bracket. It is not the ballast resistor. This capacitor mounts to the screw that holds the bracket around the coil body. Place the screw through the hole in the capacitor bracket, then through the hole in the middle of the coil bracket.
It serves to minimize noise induced into the radio by the coil.

I believe a condenser is a form of capacitor. Is the capacitor on the coil the same capacitance as the ignition condenser located by the points? Which terminal on the coil does it attach to?

Thanks,
Claude

All you should need is an electrical diagram to decide which side of coil to locate that cap. Sorry but I don't have an '70 diagram and my '74 dosen't use one of them cap's. But ZIP sells exploded diagrams laminated in plastic. Personally I'm never heard of a cap on the coil.
Okay its very unlikely the cap on the coil would be the same as the one inside the distributor. The cap's size/rating is usually marked on the outside in micro (u) or milli (m) farads. I would try the Chevy dealer for maybe NAPA for a match.
Happy hunting. cardo0

I believe that capacitor on the coil is actually a radio noise suppressor which you can get at places like Zips or Ecks.
