Default 1975 Production Question

Does anyone know if any 1975 Corvettes left the factory with 1976 bumpers? My 75 convertible has the 3 hole logo rear bumper that went on the 76 instead of the individual letters. I figured it was just replaced but then I saw another 75 that was the same way.
Thanks for the help.

P.S. New to the forum (as of yesterday).

Welcome to the forum!!!

I guess anything is possible. Is your Vin# near the end of the production numbers for 1975? I know they start test fitting pieces at the end of a run to see if there are any problems with new castings, etc.

Check out the Idaho Club site - www.idavette.com for good 75 info.

Welcome. Looks like you have a nice collection started.

I have/had a 75. While I am no expert in 75s, I have been
hanging around here for a while. I have never heard of a 75
with a 76 bumper from the factory. The 75 was a one year rear
bumper, so perhaps in the past - it was replaced with something
readily available.

Let's see some pics of your vettes.

I've seen "almost" last day production '75s and no, I don't believe one ever came with the "76 style" rear bumper. I believe what you are seeing is cars that were "repaired" with that bumper because before TrueFlex & Eckler's had their "correct" '75 rear bumper, the "GM" replacement bumper for the '75 was this still available GM '76-'79 style rear bumper which I think is still available to this day.

I'll go with what Paul B said here. Someone has likely replaced the 75 bumper with a later one. The replacement urethane 75 bumper is now non-existent. You can get fiberglass ones with the lettering indents, but not the soft ones.

Welcome Avande!

I have also -75 with -76 rear bumper, but I think it is retrofitted. I guess it is just like Paul B. said earlier. I'm going to change that -76 bumper back to -75 bumper when I repaint the car. I think it looks a lot better than the -76 thing...

Yep The individual letters are far cooler than the lame single plate put on later. I would almost guarantee the bumper has been replaced. Those urathane bumper cracked like an egg after several years.
