Default rear diff. fluid- GM or other addative?

Ok, I am changing the rear diff. fluid on Saturday. Sould I get the GM addative for limited slip? The bottle of mobil 1 synthetic claims to have addative in it. Also Autozone had limited slip addative that is supposedly GM approved.

Should I still get the GM addative (from GM)? I think I have heard I should stick with GM, but what can those who have done this tell me?

Thanks!

I have about 40,000 miles on the Mobil 1 diff oil in my Vette. I put it in straight, no additives and have had no problems. The posi still works fine. Did you do your 5 tight 360 degree turns in both directions after the oil was changed?

GM additive and Mobil 1 syntthetic lube in my differential. I would only use the GM brand of posi additive. Just my $.02 but you did ask.

My diff was making noise last year so I changed fluid and added the GM additive. Noise solved. I did not use Mobile 1.

Yeah, mine has started making noise recently. May have something to do with all the autocrossing (not to mention empy parking lot autocross "practice") I've been doing.
I think I will go for the mobil 1, if noise persists drain a little out and add the GM additive.

If that doesn't help it will have to wait for October I'll pull apart the rear end.

Cheers!

Kevin, my clutches were chattering when turning corners. That is why I changed the oil. The new oil (and the tight turns to work it into the clutches) solved the problem.

Thanks guys!
I'll be trying this on Saturday and will keep you updated.

If I'm really lucky my new Hooker headers will be here by then as well (the sidepipes came today).

Of course. You think the differential knows what type of fluid is in it?

Some one, HELP!

I heard that I should change the fluid with additive, drive with tight turns then redrain and refill with fresh fluid and additive.

Is changing the fluid twice necessary?
