I'm finally putting my new front suspension back together and just noticed the tie rod ends have an R or an L on them. Does this mean both L's go on the left side of the car or does it mean an R and an L on each with the R on the right and the L on the left???
They came from Muskeegon Brake. I was hoping to install them tonight, but I'll wait until tomorrow when they're open and call if nobody can answer this tonight. Thanks.
The L stands for left hand thread and it goes to the outside or connected to the steering arm. The R are right hand thread and are used on the inside or the drag link.
So on each side use a L and a R. If you put two L's or R's on the same tie rod sleeve the steering will not be adjustable.
Thanks guys. I wrestled with this while tossing and turning last night and it hit me that it wouldnt adjust with the same threads on one sleeve. Actually, it would adjust but it would remain the same length. I can't wait to get the ole C3 back in commission. It's been a long time and I've enjoyed driving my Austin Healey a lot but the Vette is really in a different fun class. Doing your own work certainly has it's rewards. It gives you a fresh perspective on how things work and an appreciation of the car you'd never have when farming the work out. I've been doing the mechanical work on my old cars for many years but this is my first suspension job except for the occasional change of shocks.
