Reflectix UNDER the floorpans?
I once saw a C3 advertized that showed pics from under the car. He had put insulation of some kind right over the exhaust underneath the floorboards and I'm thinking of same.
I originally posted about buying Reflectix and foil tape - I found it at my local Dixieline store at the same price as Lowes. But then I got to pulling the carpet out and figured it would be *sooo* much easier if I just had pre moulded insulation. I called and ordered some along with an interior light kit.
So I have this roll of Reflectix. I will use the pre formed ones I just ordered on the floor, and probably some off the roll that I originally bought, for the top of the tunnel.
But what about using the rest of the roll of Reflectix UNDER the car? Bubba?
I think that's how it came from the factory. So I'm not sure how it would be a Bubba. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I know for sure that some years had some sort of insulation on the outside underneath the floorboards but I don't know what kind of stuff it was and on what years.
I did exactly that. I had my trans out for a clutch, so I did the tunnel (it came stock with a liner - the clips were still there), the front of the firewall, but not the floor since mine has sidepipes. I may do it anyway just to see if there is an improvement. The main source of heat now is the outside air door that I may seal shut, and my shifter gets hot after about an hour and a half of driving.
I just installed Reflectix under my carpets and tunnel. That stuff is just bubble pack with foil on it. I don't think it would hold up well near any type of exhaust pipe or header heat. I also question it's insulating abilities under the carpet after it's stepped on and the bubbles are flattened?
I bought the roll insulation with the foil from Pep Boys for the underside of my trans tunnel.
PAul, I literally just did mine about 15 mins ago. I used the floor and tunnel insulation from DEI. It went on super easy and looks pretty neat. www.designengineering.com

That's exactly why I didn't go that route. I figure with sidepipes, Dynamat Xtreme, and jute padding, I'll be sitting pretty. 'Course, I've also got the factory tunnel collar and foil-backed insulation on the outside...

Thanks mucho. I am still sorting out all of my interior issues but that may be next. I need to finish the carpet/reflectix project before going back underneath.
Before I can even finish that, I need to find rear inside quarter panels. Vette Central and MidAmerica are both out of stock. Any other suggestions?
My 68 came with the yellow fibreglass and foil insulation under the floor, tunnel and footwells. It still has the clips to hold it in place. I need to find a similar product (locally) to re-install the insulation. I have insulated the interior using a foil type similar to the plastic cardboard stuff and that seems to be working well but amazingly the BB doesn't get too hot with the 5 row radiator.

Paul...I just finished my carpet install last week. I used Reflextic everywhere, and molded my own pieces. It was super easy to form and fit as I needed. See pic below. I found that the pre-formed pieces were too costly. You should try this first, before you buy any more pieces.
