Me again, checked the battery, alternator, all the grounds, and all the connections I could think of. It seems to happen mainly upon acceleration. Could not go 3 blocks! No overheating. Ignition coil? Carberator? Help!

Funny, I'm dealing with this same issue. I know its my fuel system, either debris in the tank, debris in the line, blockage to fuel filter or carb problems. I heard from a forum member that blockage in the tank can cuase suction problems that shoots fuel past the carb and cuases it to flood. Does your car restart and run better after you sit a minute or two? My 77 wont make half a mile or two untill it just stalls and the i sit for a bit and dhe drives better for maybe fifteen minutes or so. Tomorrow i'm taking her to mymech and well drop the ttank for cleaning, clear the lines and check the carb. U may wanna do the same.
I think my problem is a bit different. It runs fine for a few hours sometimes then it just won't run anymore. I've given up trying to self-diagnose, now it,s at the mech's. I'm thinking carb, ignition coil, or a ghost.
Often, if you have a crack in the coil, when the car heats up, the crack will open up and short = no spark. When the car cools down, the crack closes, and it will run again. Chuck

Ack!! Danger! Danger! I know it's tough to diagnose, but when you turn something like this over to a "mechanic"..... sure hope it is someone good that you trust. When you pay someone an hourly rate to diagnose intermittent problems the hours and $$ can add up quickly. Another common technique when someone else is paying the bill is to just start replacing "stuff" until the problem is fixed. This also can get very expensive and too often doesn't even fix the problem.

Does it just die like somebody shut off the key, or does it sputter and take a little bit? Also, after it has died, how long does it take before it will start again?
