I've got his ticking noise coming from my engine but only after I reach about 2000 rpm. Idling you don't hear anything. And at 3000 rpm it's like a train on the tracks."..tic tic tic / tic tic tic / tic tic tic.../.
Logic says it can't be drivetrain since it only starts over a certain rpm? Any ideas? It's so dam* annoying! Thanks.
Sounds like either an exhaust tick or a hydraulic lifter ticking. It's possible that a rocker arm nut has backed off enough that the lifter can no longer compensate, adjustment may be needed.

that it could be an exhaust leak. Check your header gaskets for a blow-by.
The exhaust system is about 2 months old (real duals with headers). Wouldn't it tic at idle also if it was an exhaust leak? I've tightened the bolts. It does seem to come from underneath the car. Thanks guys. I'll check both options.

I have experienced blown header gaskets at the manifold as well as at the collector. I tried tightening the bolts and it didn't fix it until I replaced the gaskets. As soon as I pulled the bad gasket out I saw right away where the leak was. I found the gaskets that came with my headers did not last that long. Now I have Ultraseal gaskets on, time will tell how long they last...
As for the lack of tick at idle I had the same thing, it was like it only ticked when the engine was under load. Not ticking at idle probably means its not valvetrain related which is good. Changing gaskets is easy, a good thing to rule out before you dig into your engine.
I have had my dual stainless exhaust for just over a year now. I had exhaust leaks where the cat met the pipe. I could hear it, I could see the black residue on the pipe and I could feel the exhaust leak with my fingers with the engine running. I had to tighten the clamps. Good Luck!
I had my car do something very similar once........I was used to the sound of leaking headers and was sure that's what the problem was. It was dark out and curiosity got the best of me, so I opened the hood to have a look. What I found was a bad plug wire arc-ing to a header bolt. I was running a high energy ignition system at the time. Man was it ever loud!
mine was like that last weekend when i had been at the track dragracing
really loud ticking noise around 2000 rpms and up.
turned out too be a header gasket.
