Did you change that headlight switch yet?...I might do mine this weekend or next at thelatest. If you have let me know if you took out the speedo and tack assy to get to it or reached under. If you haven't done it yet, I'll let you know pretty soon...
Just remove the ducting from the AC and reach up there, pull off the vac lines and the el. connector. Then from the front pull out the ****, remove the bezel and with the screw thing behind it you can remove the ring holding the switch in place. It's not too hard, just a cramped space to work in.

Hey Avette4me,
I have not yet. I checked and can reach the switch from under the dash after taking off the vent duct. The tach and speedo don't seem to be in the way, they are off to the side. There is a whole nest of wires and vacuum lines below the switch so I'm wondering how difficult it will be to pull the switch down through this mess. I still need to get the light switch, I found one at Eckler's for $59.00. I was going to check the Chevy house before I order.
Sorry for the long answer to the short question. I'll probably get it done in the next 1-2 weeks. If you get yours done 1st let me know how it goes.

Once again, exactly what I was going to say.
I did this last night to examina a wiring problem and you should have no trouble at all getting the switch out. Just don't forget about the little release button to pull the **** out of the switch.

I accomplished the change last night. Got the switch from Corvette Central for about $45. I used the directions above (thanks TT) except it was easier for me to disconnect the electrical connector after I pulled the switch down where I could see it. The Haynes service manual says you have to remove part of the dash and speedo. Not!
One tip, the 2 vacuum lines must be hooked up correctly. On my '82, the line that goes on the rear nipple has a blue stripe. The headlights won't open if they are switched.
I tried the headlights out before I put the switch back in and the rheostat got really hot, too hot to touch. Is this normal? I hope so, everything works.
