For transmission work (easier to be level) the factory jacking points are best for the jack stands (approx. 8" forward of rear trailing arm mounting point: approx. 6" aft of the point where the frame straightens from the curvature of the front wheel opening).

These are the ramps I build from plans on this site could not be happier with the SAFETY OF THIS SYSTEM, and for the type of tranny work you are going to do. Only took about 4 hours to build.
Did I mention that tranny removal sometimes requires a lot of wiggling the unit back and forth and this is where Jack stands make me nervous? I also should mention I leave it on their all the time with no worries about frame flex

There are similar versions that were shown in the forum ...
where the center section is removable (once the vette is in place).
When I pulled my tranny, I raised one side only (passenger).
My house came with a big stack of wire spool ends - 1.5" thick.
I stacked those up incrementally. I think about 18" under the tire is
plenty of room for the tranny and jack - less if manual trans.
Mine is a TH400.
Remember to leave enough room to get the exhaust out of the way.
I dropped my tranny crossmember and slid the whole exhaust out with that.
Good Luck
