Vettes in Spain.
1 vert 70, 1 coupe 74, 9 c5s one ferrari pink beach buggy (true!)
Just wondered if any one from Spain uses our forum?
I reckon thats a fair spot in a smallish area considering not a rally.

Out of all the time i've spent driving in southern Europe, I not seen hardly any vettes. The cost and lack of anywhere to get them repaired makes them not very functional.
Though the weather here agrees with me, I've so far been disappointed by the apparent lack of Vettes. I've seen only some C5s in and about Fuengirola and Benalmádena, and no classical Vettes at all (save for the one C2 sitting in a friend's garage). From Sam's sightings it sounds like I need to spend more time in Marbella

I'm not (yet) quite sure why there seem to be so few Corvettes here. New or old, they're a lot less costly than in Finland, that's for sure, but on any given summer day in Helsinki I could spot more Vettes than I've seen here. American cars in general seem to be underrepresented here, though.
One important reason is no doubt that Costa del Sol is to Europeans what Florida is to Americans, and Brits and Germans (who make up the largest expat/winter-bird group) prefer their Jaguars and Porsches, while the Spanish population either cannot afford a Corvette or is not into American cars...
I had a '73 Vette back in Finland and plan to eventually get a Vette, perhaps a C4, here as well. Will have to get used to the local traffic mentality first, though, as I now have the dubious honor of living beside the most dangerous highway in Europe, measured in deaths per year

What's good, though, is that the local toll highways, called autopistas, are in very good condition, span beautiful mountaneous coastal scenery, and have an effective speed limit capped only by engine output or the driver's need for speed, whichever runs out first (correlation without cause, with regards to the above-mentioned statistics, let's hope
)

Unlike the UK ( where I am from) & northern Europe the Spanish are not into American cars, as stated above due to the lack of knowing where to buy parts aside from the USA ( can be a lot of hassle & doubles the cost, so not cheap) also finding a good mechanic is also not easy. Mainly through northern Europeans residing here though we have started to build up clubs for American cars & now have some very good mechanics. The price of gas also scares some people ( mainly Spanish) at 5+ euros a US gallon ($8+) the first question I always get asked is how much horse power followed, it must use a lot of gas.
I own a 1975 Corvette (coupe) & there are not many old Corvettes down here but quite a few newer c5/6 & a few c4"s. I am hoping over the next few years there will be more American muscle arriving here on the coast, in the meantime I guess we few older c1/2/3 owners will have to stay fairly exclusive ha ha!

Not sure if you are still on the forum but I notice you are from Congleton. I am actually on my first trip with a C5 I bought in the UK last weekend. I started in Congleton where my son lives and I am on my way to Marbella. I am on the ferry at the moment as I type. I am looking for other vette owners on the Costa Del Sol. Be good to connect.
