I just took off the old door panel and was going to refurbished the old hardware, I noticed the lock besel has rivets on the back side of panel HOW do I install this on the new panel?? Will the rivets easily hammer back down on the new door panel???
How have some of you guys handled this switch over??
I don't understand the question. My '72, if I remember right, just has a hole that the lock mechinism sticks half thru and then you have to pop the little twist **** on it with clips like manual window handles. I do know it was a real pita to get them back on mine, I even had to leave out the plastic spacer.
Thanks for the response, on my 71 on both original panels have washers over the posts and it looks like they used a hammer to mushroom the heads. It kinda looks like a rivet when done. Maybe mine has been altered by a BUBBA !!!!!!!!!!!
I removed the washers tonight and got the plates off the door, the metal post seem real soft so I think if they are long enough to come through the new door panel it won't take to much to use a ball peen hammer to mash a head back onto the washers. The new door Panel is not the fiber cardboard like the old so I hope the post will be long enough.
