Need help finding hood decal

My car is going in to be resprayed in a weeks time and I've decided I'd like to keep the existing hood decal. Trouble is I don't know where to get one. Ecklers list several, but they don't have pictures or decent descriptions and Zip don't have the one I'm after.

Mine is a silver stripe that follows the buldge on the hood. It's silver with a black pinstripe under it.

Ecklers list 'L-48' and 'L-82', but I assume these are the small ones that go at the top of the buldge, just like the actual emblems? They also list "1976-82 Silver Metallic “Corvette” Hood Decal Kit" in several colours. Is this what I'm looking for?

It's a custom stripe -- not factory original. I think the Eckler's product actually has the words "Corvette" shown in the stripe.

Don't know about over there, but here, you can buy all sorts of tape to pin stripe with in different colors and widths. Any auto body shop can help you and usually have techs that can apply them if you can't, but it's easy to do.

PS: Just had a thought, (rare for me). Is it tape or is it painted on? You can maybe get a pro to paint it back on or have your painter do it at the same time the car is painted.

In the U.S. we have Auto Graphics Shops that can make just about anything you want. I agree what you have is not from the factory. I would take some very detailed digital photos of it before you have the car painted.

I had a similar situation several years ago .Had body shop take digital picture and reproduce by painting on hood .Turned out great

It's a sticker applied on top of the paint.

Hmmm...I'd just assumed it was standard and came with the car. No wonder I was having such trouble finding them

In that case, I'll wait until the car's back from paint and see how it looks, if there is too much red for my taste and I feel it needs breaking up a little then I may see about having another made. Or get some side emblems to jazz it up a little...

A skilled body detailer can do up something simple for about $50.00. These stripes are tape (not paint) and have been on that car for four years. They haven't moved despite many car washes and polish jobs.
