John - I read your ZZ4 engine swap FAQ and really appreciate the info. I'm putting a ZZ3 in a 1970 LT1 convertible. I got the 10105832 flywheel you suggested and it fits on the crank, works with the clutch and pressure plate, and fits inside the bell housing. I have a conventional short throwout bearing. The problem is that the clutch fork doesn't fit correctly now. What is the part number for the correct cluch fork? Does the short throwout bearing work?
For my ZZ4 I used all the stock transmission stuff, bell housing, clutch fork etc. I did buy a new stock fork (Ecklers P/N A5983 but it can be found from other vendors as well) because one of the ball stud clips was broken. I got a new clutch assembly (Ram Clutches Summitt P/N RAM-98764) and it came with a throw-out bearing and it fit just fine. Maybe with the ZZ3 there are some clearance issues (which I doubt). Does the ZZ3 have a two-piece on one-piece rear main seal? The ZZ4 is a one-piece rear main so that may be the reason and maybe the flywheel will not work with a ZZ3. What are the differences between a ZZ3 and ZZ4??
BTW - I see you are from Baltimore.....I am out 66 west from DC in Northern Va.

The ZZ3 is externally identical to the ZZ4. The primary difference is that the ZZ4 has powdered metal composite connecting rods while the ZZ3 has the old 'pink' rods like an old syle LT1 or Z28.
Maybe the Ram clutch assembly you got is for the later model and has a shorter installed height than the early clutch and pressure plate. The early clutch and pressure plate bolt up, but maybe it is too tall (thick) to work with the original clutch fork?
Yes, Baltimore during the week, Ocean City on the weekends, hence, 'O.C.Barry'.
Could be on the clutch but I know it was specific for a 1971 Corvette with a 4-speed. Now that my ZZ4 has put some miles on my tired drive train I am now doing a rear suspension rebuild. The next thing on my list is rebuilding the 4 speed (its starting to make noise) and when I have that apart I'll measure my clutch to see how thick it is. It probably won't do you any good because I won't get to the tranny until next year
No Carlisle this year, I want to take my Vette and it can't move too well right now with no back tires and all + I am swamped at work
Sorry I'm not much help with your issue. Good luck
