I know I saw some info on this here but can not remember where. I would just like to decifer the numbers on my engine block.
Stamped on the block are these numbers.
16S424981
VO22
CKW
My car is a 1976 with the L48 engine and 4 speed transmission, it was delivered to the original owner in March 1976.
I did find out that the last letters, CKW mean 350ci, 180hp, manual transmission.
If someone knows where I can locate the info on the other numbers please tell me.
thanks
The last 6 (424981) numbers should match your vin number if the engine is original to the car. You are right about the CKW designator being an L48 180 hp 4 speed car. I am not sure about the VO22 I do know that the 22 paint code was for a blue car. Hope this helps. BTW Your Vin # shows the manufacture date of your car as March 4, 1976, St Louis, MO
Stamped on the block are these numbers.
16S424981
VO22
CKW
The first number is the VIN:
1=Chevy
6=year (76)
S=St Louis Plant
424981=build sequ starting at 40000 (thus the 24,981 built for '76)
The other number seems to have a number missing. Should be something like V022?CKW:
V=Flint engine plant
022?=build date (format of MMDD)
CKW=engine usage code (L48/manual trans)
[VIN 24981 would have been built in early March 76, so an engine built Feb 20something would be correct]
