Thermostat?
Please excuse me for being dumb but while looking over my vacuum lines around the air cleaner I noticed two hose connections attached to the thermostat on my 1980 and one of them is broken and Im having a heck of a time trying to find a replacement because I dont know what it is.Also a similar connection leading from the EGR valve.Does anyone know what these little gadgets might be called?

They are called thermal vacuum switches (TVSs). One (on the intake) is for the EGR as you have noted. The unit on the t-stat housing is for the early fuel evaporative (EFE) system: controls the heat riser on the passenger side exhaust.
They're color coded so be sure to let your parts person know what color you're replacing.
